Is this the right course for me?

If you are planning on a career as a professional driver and have already obtained the Cat B (Car) licence then this course is ideal.

This course provides 30 hours training broken into the following:

  • Up to 28 hours driver training in order to take the reversing test (3a) and also the road driving test (3b)
  • Up to 2 hours in order to take the Initial DCPC Part 4 test

If you have completed your Car licence prior to 1997 then you may book onto the Driver CPC with ADR periodic training with CTP and therefore do not require part 4.

When going straight from a Category B licence to your C+E licence you must ensure that have the provisional entitlement for C+E on your B licence. You must also have completed and passed the theory test before booking, for those completing part 4 of the Initial DCPC during this course you will also require Part 2, Case studies test pass prior to booking.

Course Content

This course is delivered by 2 Start Training at the following locations:

Otterbourne (near Winchester SO21 2DY )

Worthing ( BN18 9PY )

Training consists of up to 30 hours practical training (which includes 2 hours Initial DCPC training) delivered over a 9 or 10 day period. During training all attendees will be required to attempt three tests:

  • Test 3a, which is a reversing test, taken earlier in the course and must be passed prior to attempting 3b.
  • Test 3b, which is the road driving test to be taken at the end of the course
  • Part 4 test for the Initial DCPC

We plan to ensure that 3a is taken as early as possible to allow an opportunity for retest prior to advancing to 3b test which will place on the final day of the course, however this may be later, after completion of training and is dependent on the workload of the local test centre.

As driving is a skill that some will develop faster than others, it is important for all Service leavers to understand that the average commercial first time pass rate is in the region of 60%. This course provides full training on the skills required to pass the test, successful candidates will be those who apply the skills taught during the course.

Please Note: Whilst it is not a requirement to have completed DCPC (initial or periodic) to attend this course, you MUST have completed either (depending on your circumstances) prior to attending any work attachment or taking up employment as a driver for hire or reward. For further information see here. (web link: https://www.gov.uk/transport/driver-cpc-training )

Test Fees: Please note that in order to secure a test during the course the booking is made and paid in advance therefore test fees are non-refundable. In the instance that a Service leaver is not ready for the booked test then the time previously allocated for this activity will be spent on further training. Test fees are currently £155.00 for 3a and 3b and £55.00 for part 4. Test resit fees can be paid directly to our Associate if you require them.
