Why take this course?
This course is ideal as a follow on from either the Property Maintenance course or if you wish to undertake minor projects in the home or garden – such as a garden wall, fire pit or barbecue.This practical course will provide you with all the required skills, knowledge and techniques. It will teach you how to construct or maintain external structures, principally in the garden. Taught by experienced tradespeople who are experts in their field you will learn all the ‘tricks of the trade’ to achieve that professional standard.

This course is right for you if you are looking to complete landscaping/bricklaying projects around your home or gain the skills for a career in property development. You will be keen to have ‘hands on’ experience and want to achieve practical results in a short time. If your aim is to develop your DIY skills to complete small projects around your home then this will suit your needs.No prior knowledge is required but keenness to participate in practical exercises from the start is necessary to get the most out of the course.

There are no formal qualifications available on this course.Eligibility
There are no entry requirements, however attendees will find it advantageous to have completed the Property Maintenance course. The course is open to all Service Leavers who are able to deal with the physical requirements of the course.Course Content
The course content can be flexible according to the demands of the students but will include some or all of the following:
- Selection and safe use of tools
- Identify brick types
- Build brick corners and lay bricks to the line
- Measure and cut bricks
- Bed a damp proof course
- Build a brick pier
- Set and build an arch
- Select correct mix proportions for requirement
- Place, compact and finish concrete
- Bricklaying techniques to support exterior projects
- Path laying
- Patio laying
- Block paving
- Concrete bases and foundations
- All relevant Health and Safety.
If a student has a particular project in mind and it is within the scope of the course, every effort will be made to give tuition on it.
